DescriptionLewis Carroll, Alice in Wonderland: On an 1862 row boat outing, Charles Lutwidge Dodgson (Lewis Carroll) entertained three sisters, one of whom was named Alice, with a tale about a girl falling down a rabbit hole and into wondrous adventures. In 1864, Dodgson wrote and illustrated his story. The page reproduced here features an illustration from the one-of-a-kind handwritten book that Carroll presented to Alice Liddell, the girl who inspired the famous tale. The published version would be illustrated by professional artist John Tenniel.
